Agent smiled, he couldn't believe he'd gotten such a good deal from the used game store! Clutching in his hands was a very rare first edition copy of Pokemon Blue, complete with its original packaging and in nearly mint condition, never for a moment did it cross his mind that it seemed a little strange how anxious the shopkeeper was to get rid of this particular item, it didn't strike him as odd that he got such a good deal, infact he was beaming from ear to ear with the knowledge of the purchase he just made.

He burst into his room as soon as he got home, his gameboy sitting on his desk, awaiting the freshly purchased game to play. He made sure there were a new batch of batteries to hand, having not played it in some time and he hoped it still worked! Very delicately he opened the box, removing the pristine copy of Pokemon from its cardboard holdings. Unlike most collectors, Agent had no intention of making a profit from this purchase, he wanted the game for nostalgic reasons and to get the original authentic experience of playing, no emulators or virtual consoles required. Sure he knew he could sell this copy for tens, if not hundreds of dollars, but he didn't mind, he just wanted to play.

Slotting the game in with a satisfying 'Ch-lunk' sound, taking a moment to brace himself as he flicked the switch on. Nothing. The screen remaining blank.

He huffed to himself, grumbling as he took the game out again, slowly. Blowing a puff of air into the cartridge, perhaps some dust was trapped inside? He tried again, slotting the game inside and booting it up. This time he was rewarded with the immensely satisfying 'blink!' sound of the game starting up, the nostalgia overwhelmed him as the original title screen of the classic game flared to life before his eyes. It looked so much more pristine and clear than he ever remembered. Why would anyone ever want to sell this game? It was a classic!

He entered his name, selected his gender, and began his journey. All whilst sitting there in his work clothes, not even bothering to remove his shoes once getting inside! Just sitting there, for the next few hours, getting engrossed in his game.

Selecting Squirtle as his starter, he soon made his way through the game's first few areas. Onwards to Viridian Forest and Pewter City, the chip-tune soundtrack of the ancient game sending shivers of nostalgia up his spine. or so he thought! After a while he noticed that the shivers seemed to be getting more intense... Perhaps he was cold? He tried to take his hands off the game, but found that they were stuck, clammy, as if his sweat were glue.

His eyes were affixed to the screen, unable to look away. His mind seemed a little hazy, unable to focus on anything around him than the game in his hands. he shrugged it off yet again, challenging Brock the first gym leader to his first boss battle.

As he entered the gym the game seemed to flicker a little, as if the power was fluctuating. He hesistated as suddenly a message popped up. He never recalled reading this upon entering the gym, maybe his memory wasn't as great as he thought? he slowly read the bubble.

"Beware, young trainer, if you challenge brock, and fail, forever shall this game be your home"

Agent read it carefully again, trying to pull his hands from the game, perhaps starting to get a little paniced. He decided he'd just beat brock, having Squirtle meaning it should be an easy fight, then he'd call for help and try to wrench his hands off this old console.

Starting out with squirtle he owned the first geodude, but was caught off guard by Onix and its rock tomb! Squirle was down, and his low-level bug pokemon were no match for Brock's rock-type moves.

Agent huffed as the Onix slammed his Pidgey, KO'ing it instantly, soon he was down to his last Caterpie, which fainted swiftly afterwards. Moaning to himself he suddenly remember what the game said? Forever his home? What kind of stupid nonsense was that. In the game he read the text, "Trainer Agent has no more useable pokemon, Agent blacked out!"

As he read the last line, his whole world began to fade around him. He began to feel dizzy as he himself blacked out too! The room seemed to grow as he shrank, his body becoming electrified with the shivers running down his spine as he felt himself getting sucked into the screen. Every fiber of his being becoming encoded inside the cartridge, no longer a human being as the gameboy fell to the ground with a clunk.

Inside Agent's mind was racing, he wasn't breathing anymore, he couldn't feel anything. He just existed. Suddenly he awoke to find himself in a strange new environment. The world was black and white, with a certain pixellated quality to it. It took him a moment to realise it but he was INSIDE the game!

He tried to move, to run, escape. But he couldn't! As the game loaded he felt himself getting permanently altered into a new form inside the game's processor. His body becoming a sprite as he appeared in-game. His viewpoint was a little obscured, a little abstracted by his new 2D existance, it was nearly impossible for his human mind to comprehend.

To an onlooker, Agent had been sucked into the game and compressed into an in-game item. He was now nothing more than a sprite on the flattened screen, unable to move, talk or communicate in any way. The sprite in question was that of a Pokeball, a simple one to say the least! He was sitting comfortably on a path near Mt Moon, watching as he could 'see' several NPC's walking backwards and forwards. Hoping that he could catch their attention he tried to roll, to move in some way to attract them. But he wasn't programmed to do so!

He had no idea what he contained, a TM perhaps? or maybe a potion, heck he could even be a Voltorb in disguise. No, that was silly, a voltorb wouldn't be this early in the game, that was most likely in the power plant.

Outside the game, Agent's friend came home, wondering where he could be. Searching the place he found the game laying on the floor of his room. Picking it up he began playing, just as Agent had done. Levelling up the pre-existing pokemon and nailing Brock first time, ignoring any of the warning messages from before. He made his way to Mt Moon inside the game, trying to get through this boring part of the game as soon as possible and onwards to the next gym.

From Agent's point of view, he could suddenly see his avatar walking towards him! He tried to yell, to roll his flattened pokeball sprite body, but he couldn't. He appeared on the screen as his character walked near, getting ever closer. He hoped that if interacted with, he might be able to communicate in some way. The sprite stopped just before him, waiting anxiously to be picked up.

his friend, Bored by this old game and its monochrome colours pressed start, saved the game, and promptly shut it off, chucking the gameboy into Agent's drawer.

Agent never had time to notice as his form was saved into the internal code of the game and overwritten, becoming a none-sentient object in the game world. The pokeball item was sure next time it was loaded up the player would pick it up and use it, and that made the item happy, to be an item and to be used to help the player any way it could.

The game was soon sealed up again and sold on ebay for a substantial ammount.
A story for AgentXY of his character getting sucked into an old cursed console and being transformed into a living sprite object!
